Healthy power snack: fruity energy bars

Whether for exercise, studying, or simply getting through a day at work or school – your body needs energy. If you're short on time or barely have time for a hearty breakfast in the morning, homemade granola bars are a great way to provide yourself with vitamins and nutrients. Why not give them a try?

What you need:

  • 100 g oat flakes
  • 100 g sunflower seeds
  • 30 g puffed quinoa
  • 75 g dried cranberries
  • 60 g pumpkin seeds
  • 110 g maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 pinch of salt

    How it works:

To make these delicious vegan granola bars, you first need to chop all the nuts, sunflower seeds, and dried fruit. Mix them in a bowl with the oats and puffed quinoa and set the ingredients aside. Heat the maple syrup, coconut oil, and salt in a saucepan until the syrup is nice and runny. Add the liquid to the dry ingredients and mix until sticky. Spread the mixture evenly on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and press it down firmly. Then bake the whole thing in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius (convection oven) for about 15 minutes. Let the baking sheet cool for 2 hours and decorate your finished bars with chocolate, if you like.

    Vegan fruit bars

Fruit bars are a great on-the-go snack, especially for small children. They're not as sticky, take up little space, and while they can't replace breakfast, they're a great alternative to the usual quick-buy treats. We'll share the basic recipe and a summery twist with you here, but remember, you can adapt any of the recipes to your own taste. And when you get a little peckish, there's definitely something for everyone.

    What you need:

    Basic recipe:

    • 180 g dates
    • 130 g nuts
    • 160 g dried fruit

    Fruit Bar Colada:

    • 180 g dates
    • 160 g coconut flakes
    • 35 g dried pineapple
    • 25 g dried bananas
    • 15 g dried mango

    How it works:

Now you need a heavy-duty appliance: Using a food processor, blend all the ingredients until a moist, crumbly mixture forms. It should be slightly sticky when pressed; that's the way it should be. Line a baking pan with cling film and pour the mixture into it. Press down firmly with another layer of cling film, ideally using the bottom of a glass. Place the pan in the refrigerator for about an hour, then top the almost-finished bars with baking wafers. Now it gets tricky: Turn the pan out onto a board and repeat the process with the wafers. Cut the bars to the desired size. The perfect toddler snack is ready.

There's no such thing as the perfect recipe for vegan granola bars. But with all the delicious recipes available, you can easily create the perfect bars for you and your loved ones. You decide on the ingredients, and the result is a healthy, sugar-free snack that the kids will also enjoy.
